Don't go fishing in Zug without knowing the Rules!
Yes indeed, fishing in Zug is not as simple as walking down to the lake and casting a line into the water. Switzerland enforces some of the strictest angling, environmental, and animal welfare laws in the world. Navigating cantonal patents, gear restrictions, and local wildlife regulations can quickly turn an innocent afternoon into costly fines or tangled frustration. Led by a passionate lifelong angler with a degree in Fisheries Managment, our coaching days give your child a fast-track learning curve in a safe, structured, and fun environment. Kids learn real angling techniques, water safety, and insider access to secret local spots where fish actually bite—all while keeping completely on the right side of Swiss law.
Safety and Liability Disclaimer
- Inherent Outdoor Risks: Coaching takes place in real outdoor environments near open water, docks, and road traffic. Activities involve handling sharp hooks, knives, lead weights, and predatory fish with razor-sharp teeth (Pike / Hecht). Punctures, slips, cuts, and bites are genuine risks especially when safety guidelines are not respected.
- Strict Safety Standards & Discipline: Safety on and around the water is non-negotiable. Participants must follow all instructions and commands immediately. We reserve the right to immediately terminate the session without refund if any child’s behavior is reckless, unruly, or poses a danger to themselves or others.
- Disclaimer of Liability (Haftungsausschluss): Participation is entirely at the participant’s own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by Swiss law (Art. 100 OR), the coach/organizer accepts no liability for personal injuries, accidents, equipment loss, or property damage sustained during the session. Adequate accident insurance (Unfallversicherung / UVG) and private third-party liability insurance (Privathaftpflichtversicherung) are the sole responsibility of the participant’s parent or legal guardian.
Some surprising (and essential) Lake Zug Fishing Rules
- The "Freiangelrecht" Trap: Anyone can fish for free from the shore only if using a single barbless hook, a float (bobber), and simple natural bait like maggots or worms. The moment you clip on a spinner, artificial lure, drop-shot rig, or fish without a float, you legally require an official fishing patent.
- No "Pure" Catch-and-Release: Under Swiss animal protection laws, fishing purely for sport with the premeditated intent to release everything is illegal. Every angler must know exactly how to measure legal catch sizes and humanely handle or release fish based on ecological guidelines.
- Live Bait is Strictly Forbidden: Using live baitfish is banned across all Swiss waters to prevent unnecessary suffering and invasive species spread.
- Strict Night Bans & Seasonal Zones: Shore fishing is prohibited during nighttime hours (varying by season), and casting near designated public swimming baths (Badeanstalten) or protected reed beds carries immediate legal penalties.
- Mandatory Landing Tools: You cannot simply haul a fish up onto concrete. Swiss standards require using a soft landing net and wet hands to prevent stripping the protective slime coat off young fish.

All 3 of my kids had 2 fishing days with Nabil and they absolutely loved it. They even caught a big fish the second time and it was so helpful that the equipment was included! Definitely recommended
